# Genius Search API Documentation

<p>Search Genius by type: song, lyric, artist, album or all. Each hit carries id, title, artists, release date, annotation count, page views, artwork and the Genius URL. Lyric search returns the matching songs with a lyric_match flag, never the lyric text. Type all returns up to 5 hits per section, including videos, articles and users.</p>

## Authentication

Send your Scrappa API key in the `X-API-KEY` request header. Paid endpoints also support accountless x402 payments when called without an API key.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `q` | string | Yes | Search text. Example: humble. |
| `type` | string | No | song, lyric, artist, album or all. Default: song. |
| `page` | integer | No | Page number, starting at 1. Default: 1. |
| `per_page` | integer | No | Results per page, 1-50. Default: 20. |

## Errors

| Status | Error | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 404 | Not Found | Genius has no resource for this id or path. This response is not billable. |
| 422 | Validation Error | A parameter is missing or invalid. No upstream request is made. This response is not billable. |
| 503 | Genius Temporarily Unavailable | Genius did not answer in time or the request was blocked. Retry after a short pause. This response is not billable. |
