# TrueCar Search API Documentation

<p><strong>TrueCar Search API</strong> returns one page of public TrueCar inventory for a make and model, used or new, around a US ZIP code. Each listing carries the VIN, year, trim, mileage, specs, price with USD currency, TrueCar price quality rating (excellent, great, good, fair or high), vehicle history counts, stock number, listing date, image, public listing url and the dealer with distance in miles. The response adds total_count, page, per_page (30), has_more and the search location. A valid empty result (unknown model, page past the end) is a successful response; an upstream failure is not billed.</p>

## Authentication

Send your Scrappa API key in the `X-API-KEY` request header. Paid endpoints also support accountless x402 payments when called without an API key.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |

| `make` | string | Yes | TrueCar make slug: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, e.g. toyota or land-rover. Example: toyota. |
| `model` | string | Yes | TrueCar model slug: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, e.g. camry or model-3. Example: camry. |
| `condition` | string | No | used or new. Defaults to used. |
| `page` | integer | No | 1-based page number, 30 listings per page, up to page 100. Defaults to 1. |
| `postal_code` | string | No | 5-digit US ZIP code the search is centred on. Defaults to 10118 (New York, NY). Example: 90210. |
| `radius` | integer | No | Search radius in miles around the postal code, 1 to 500. Defaults to 75 for used and 150 for new cars. Example: 50. |

## Errors

| Status | Error | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 422 | Validation Error | The make or model is missing or not a TrueCar slug, or the page, postal code or radius is out of range. This response is not billable. |
| 422 | Unknown Postal Code | TrueCar could not render a search for the supplied postal code. This response is not billable. |
| 503 | Upstream Unavailable | TrueCar is temporarily unreachable, blocked the request or answered a page without the expected data (PARSER_DRIFT). Retry later; this response is not billable. |
