Structured data for real applications. Here are some ideas.
Build a reading list for a research topic by keyword, restricted to a publication year range with as_ylo and as_yhi, with up to 20 results per request.
Pass a cites_id from any result back as cites to list every paper that cites it, then rank the citing papers by their own cited-by totals.
Track new work on a topic with the recent additions sort order and store new result_id values as they appear for recurring alerts.
Collect full-text resources such as PDF links for reading lists, research assistants, and document pipelines when Google Scholar shows them.
Enrich internal research databases with citation counts, version counts, publication summaries, and Google Scholar author profile IDs.
Google Scholar scraper API
The Google Scholar API is built for research tools, literature review pipelines, citation analysis, and academic dashboards that need Google Scholar results in JSON instead of HTML. One endpoint covers keyword search, cited-by lookups, and all-versions lookups, so you can move from a topic to the papers that cite a given work without writing a parser. Each result includes a title, link, snippet, result_id, publication summary, authors with profile IDs when Google Scholar links them, full-text resources, and inline links for cited-by counts, versions, and related articles.
Keyword search with q, cited-by search with cites, and all-versions search with cluster from a single endpoint.
inline_links.cited_by returns the citation total and a cites_id, and inline_links.versions returns the version total and a cluster_id you can pass back as a parameter.
publication_info.summary returns authors, venue, year, and source domain, while publication_info.authors adds author_id when a Google Scholar profile is linked.
resources returns full-text links with file_format, such as PDF, when Google Scholar shows them.
Filter by publication year with as_ylo and as_yhi, and sort by relevance or recent additions with scisbd.
Request up to 20 results with num and page with start up to 990, using next_start and has_next from the pagination block.
Test the Google Scholar scraper API with 500 free monthly credits before scaling production traffic.
Send q with optional year filters, sort order, language, and num to get one page of scholarly results with titles, snippets, authors, PDF links, and citation counts.
Open Google Scholar API docsTake inline_links.cited_by.cites_id from a result and send it as cites to list the papers that cite it, optionally with q to search within them. Send a cluster_id as cluster on its own to list every version of a paper, such as publisher pages, preprints, and repository copies.
Every Scrappa account includes 500 free monthly credits, and the pricing page explains pay-as-you-go credit packs for larger research and citation workloads.

A Google Scholar API returns Google Scholar search results as structured data instead of HTML. Scrappa returns titles, links, snippets, publication summaries, authors, full-text resources, cited-by counts, version counts, and pagination fields as JSON from one endpoint.
Run a keyword search, take inline_links.cited_by.cites_id from the result you care about, and send it as cites. Add q if you want to search within the citing papers.
Take inline_links.versions.cluster_id from a result and send it as cluster. The cluster parameter must be used on its own, without q or cites.
Up to 20 per request with num, and offsets up to 990 with start, so roughly the first 1,000 results Google Scholar returns for a query. Use the same num value for every page so offsets line up.
Not from this endpoint. It returns search results only. Author names and author_id values are included in each result when Google Scholar links a profile.
total_results is parsed from the Google Scholar result count line, which uses different number formats per language and locale. Use result_stats for display and pagination.has_next to decide whether to fetch more pages.
No. Scrappa is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. You only need a Scrappa API key, sent as the X-API-KEY header.
Yes. Every Scrappa account includes 500 free credits per month, so you can test Google Scholar searches before buying credit packs. Paid usage costs as little as $0.20 per 1,000 requests, and validation errors and failed searches are not billed.
